    Hello Alec. I took my AL80 to a shop near Lake Hydra. They removed the Yoke Adapter to fill using their DIN connection. They also replaced the Green o-Ring with a Black one.

  • @hearsejr

    Lol... I've used yoke since 1987.... I rarely had any issues with yoke, as long as you maintain your gear. Keep extra O-rings for everything. I'm expecting my yoke to blow the screw- on threads off it one day. . I keep extra plugs, hoses, and i probably don't have too but i carry a extra abasic regulator set up with me these days. Lol rarely have I ever ran across a tank with more the 3000 psi.. halfvthe time I don't even get too 3000.. last time I got ripped off and only got 2750 in my aluminum 80 tank. Lol. I did have an issue with my first DIN . It was the guy that was running a dive class on the boat that we were using. We were splitting the boat cost and the guy that was helping the class got sea sick. He could not stand up long enough to fall off the boat and it was a new rig so he asked if I would take it to 33 ft, and give him my opinion.. it leaked like crazy! It turned out it was dropped before he got it and had a bad spot and it snugged up but. Did not seal. I went through 1000 psi in a few minutes and came up and traded tank and regulator. I like my trusty old US Divers, it was nice to get to try out a brand new plastic light weight, but the new reg had a little skinny hose that was stiff and had a rough feel to it. Just did not feel right. Lol.

    Right before jumping in I had an O-ring extrusion using yoke. Was able to replace o-ring with save the dive kit. Both are good, but I feel most comfortable with Din. Your long video on the pros and cons of both is GREAT.

    My Genesis Prana came with a Yoke. On the Third Dive, The Oct fell apart. Specifically, The Purge button fell out. While I was in 30 Feet of water. Didn't know it until it Free Flowed. Grabbed it out of the Holster to see the inside mechanism. Which I was able to manually close. Went to the surface. Instructor followed me up. Told him I had an Equipment Failure. Fortunately one of the Dive Masters had a spare Reg set. So I was able to complete the 2nd and third Dives of my AOW Class on Sat.

    I had a mk 6 Fenzy, probably the safest buoyancy aid ever made for divers. Separate weight belt is a must, latter divers seem obsessed with pockets and "D" rings. I went into commercial diving which killed my love of the sport. Prior to that I used to mainly dive alone just as the "buddy system"was being pushed, so at venues I had to dive with idiots. 70s/80s were peak for the sport. This sport is now full of technobabble morons.

    There's no advantage to using a "dive" bag when regular luggage works just as well. And there's a reason to avoid a dive bag as it advertises that the contents is valuable and temps a luggage thief.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter День тому

      Some use regular bags but dive bags have a few special points: wet area for items like suits, stronger sides, more pockets to stuff long items like fins. In all my decades of dive travel, not seen dive gear stolen just because it might have a logo on it. Either way it's an option to go basic. Thanks for watching. A

    So it doesnt have to do with the depth but with the tank pressure

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 3 дні тому

      It's really depth and Intermediate Pressure (IP) make a balanced regulator. When depth increases IP increase to compensate so the diver has the same breathing effort, regardless of depth. Tank pressure does not factor in much as at 500 psi, it will still breathe as easy at 130 ft as 15 feet. Hope this helps. A

    • @user-xj8jw4ik9s
      @user-xj8jw4ik9s 3 дні тому

    At one of our local squid dive sites, Redondo Canyon, there are occasionally squid boats that will fish nearby. They drop seal bombs in the water to scare sea lions away from their nets. Unfortunately, at over 200 decibels, the seal bombs can create a very concussive sound to divers in the area. A good example is on the video "Seal bombs while diving La Jolla Shores"

  • @henrymaxfield
    @henrymaxfield 5 днів тому

    Good perspective! One point to add is that a backup SPG shouldn't be necessary from a safety perspective: in the event of a transmitter failure you have to end the dive, but you know (hopefully!) that you have enough gas to safely ascend and complete stops. I typically run one or the other, even for technical/decompression dives, with the philosophy that carrying both is just adding extra O-rings etc to possibly fail.

    My son (10) would like that for our private pool. Is it too dangerous to use it in a pool to have some fun (depth 1.5m)? We don't have scuba experience. Thx

      it’s targeted for shallow water like a pool, but must have adult supervision. Swimming lessons are needed and a 10 year old can take scuba lessons. A

    Alex, did you notice when you were explaining the faces of the console, you mixed up the SPG and depth gauge 0:59 but you did get the compass right 😉 BTW I will only use analog SPGs, none of the expensive computers and transmitters and their extra service and maintenance costs as. The KISS analog SPG works fine for me.

    Hello sir, I can see by your comment sections that you interact with folks and answer questions… I am looking for something for wild fires, I live in a place with lots of fires and I’m trying to get those few extra minutes with my water trailer if needed, or those few extra minutes to try to catch my animals… you think this thing will work for that?

      If you were in a high stress, high exertion situation, a larger tank like a 19 cu/ft or slightly bigger that you can easily carry might be better. A

      @@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter I think you are right, I think I’m gonna find a dive shop and get some real equipment. I appreciate your time sir, thank you. I live about 15 miles south of where the current Park fire started in Ca, we have small fires around here constantly and lots of land has burned around here in years past. My zone isn’t as bad as some others, but I wanna be ready IF I ever do have to deal with wild fires. I’ll sub for ya too!

    One issue may be with the carefully-prepared bailout cylinders rebreather divers have. Not (yet?) my case, but as far as I can imagine those cylinders usually stay full all the time. Well, they will have a shorter lifetime and that's about it, I guess.

    Lololol I don't think I have to worry about MI e being too big. Lol. I been wanting to try out my old horse collar.. I had it for years in my closet and looks like brand new. It was always too nice for the places I worked so I kept it put up.

      Wow an old collar in mint condition. Be careful if diving with it. A

      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter I don't want to get it dirty of wet... so I hung it up in my spare closet and every once in a while, I pull it out and think " maybe I will take it too the pool and play with it.." but I think it's never been wet and I still have the original CO2 cartridge on it. I did notice it has a very slow leak now. I had it since 1988.
